You are invited...
Downtown Johnson City's monthly "meandering art festival" is known as First Friday. This event began in 2001 as a monthly expo of local and regional art inside Nelson Fine Art. Now, a few years later, on the First Friday of each month the downtown district is starting to buzz with activity. Streets are closed to vehicle traffic, other galleries have opening receptions, retail businesses hold openhouses, and artists and crafters set up to sell their wares. In the warm weather, restaurants pull tables onto the sidewalks, local soulfood restaurant, Taste Budz fries fresh fish, and bands play in the street. But, the epicenter of activity is still Nelson Fine Art.
Each month, the Nelson features 6-20 local artists in the 2000 square foot exhibition gallery. On the First Friday from 7-9 p.m. artists are on hand to chat with gallery visitors about their creations. Refreshments are served by local caterering company, Mallory G's, and hundreds of gallery patrons enjoy an evening of art and food. Spilling onto the sidewalks, visitors can stroll the streets and enjoy the historic downtown district. After the opening reception, the featured artistwork is on display for the remainder of the month till the final Saturday, when gallery planners take down the show and begin the process of readying the exhibition space for the next show.
Prior to First Friday and other gallery events we send an e-invitation to our friends. If you wish to be added to our e-list, please click here. We do not share your email address with anyone and to protect you, all emails we produce are sent "bcc."

Framing keeps art on these walls.
These words ring true in Nelson Fine Art daily. Through the strength of our custom picture framing business, we keep the First Friday exhibits rolling. If you want to be a patron of the Arts and do not feel led to purchase the artist's works, then give us the opportunity to earn your custom picture framing business.
The following links archive the shows over the past years. As we find additional pictures and info we will add to the available log. If you have images from any of our shows, please email us and we'll add them to the archive.
